Cable Management for AI Servers and Data Centers: The Complete Guide to KSS Halogen-Free, Flame-Retardant Materials

Customer requirements: high-density AI cabinets set four new demands for cable management materials

AI server cabinets carry far higher computing and cable density than conventional cabinets. As a result, procurement and engineering teams now evaluate cable management materials on space efficiency, separation capability and adjustability. The four reference figures below are taken from the ANSI/TIA-942-C data center telecommunications infrastructure standard and from TIA-569 / BICSI cable separation guidance.

Reference figure

Industry requirement

Explanation

Matching KSS solution

800 mm

Minimum cabinet width

Cabinets in the main, intermediate and horizontal distribution areas require a minimum width of 800 mm to provide space for high-density cabling

Wiring ducts and mounting bases can be combined flexibly to fit the clear space of an 800 mm cabinet

1.6T

Ultra-high-speed fiber connectivity

VSFF very small form factor connectors support 400G to 1.6T (16 fibers) AI network cabling, which sharply increases fiber density

Wiring ducts and mounting bases separate and secure dense cable groups, reducing the risk of disordered patching

12 inches

Data and power cable separation

Data cables and power cables should be kept apart to avoid electromagnetic interference; a common industry figure is about 12 inches (300 mm), with the actual value depending on current and shielding

MHF series ducts allow signal and power cables to run in separate channels, meeting the separation requirement

Hundreds of cables

Sharp rise in cable density per cabinet

Because AI server cabinets carry high computing density, the number of cables in a single cabinet far exceeds that of a conventional cabinet

MGL / MTL hook-and-loop straps can be reopened and readjusted as cables are added and routing changes

Sources: public technical material from the ANSI/TIA-942-C standard; cable separation figures also reference TIA-569 / BICSI cable separation guidance.

In the field: from inside the cabinet to the overhead tray

On a real data center or equipment room site, no single product covers all cable management needs. Hook-and-loop straps, PVC wiring ducts, spiral wrapping bands, nylon cable ties, wire markers, conduits and mounting clips work together, selected according to the area they serve, to form one complete cable management system. From dressing cables inside the cabinet, to routing along overhead trays between rows, to protecting cables across zones and labeling circuits, the existing KSS product range already covers these practical scenarios and gives procurement and engineering teams a single-source basis for material selection.

Core products: two KSS material families that match data center needs directly

Within the current KSS product range, the following two series correspond directly to cabinet and pathway cable management requirements in data centers.

MGL / MTL hook-and-loop straps (series 0351 / 0352)

Designed for network cables (UTP / STP / fiber) and signal cables. They can be opened and closed repeatedly and adjusted for tension, which avoids the over-tightening of conventional nylon cable ties that can deform cables and affect transmission speed. MGL uses a plastic buckle; MTL uses a metal buckle for heavy-duty use. Materials are nylon hook and loop faces with POM or nickel-plated metal buckles. Lengths from 153 to 702 mm in multiple sizes.

P.93

MHF halogen-free insulating wiring duct (series 0102)

Representative model MHF-4040 (40 x 40 mm), made of UL-recognized white PC/ABS, rated to 100 degrees Celsius. The aligned slot design lets the duct be cut and joined at any angle, which suits dense cable exits inside a cabinet. It meets both the halogen-free environmental requirement and the 94V-0 flame retardance rating.

P.24

Full part number coverage: the complete cable management consumable range

Beyond the two core products above, the existing KSS wiring accessory range covers the other categories of consumables a data center installation requires.

For complete part numbers, specifications and catalog pages, please refer to the KSS AI server and data center infrastructure product list (Excel). CV series cable ties are currently classified in the catalog by 94V-2 and 94V-0 flame ratings; if a halogen-free certified part number is required, please confirm the specific model with our sales team.

Understanding the specifications: halogen-free standards and UL94 flame ratings

Halogen-free and flame-retardant are two separate requirements that data center materials must meet together. Halogen-containing materials can release harmful gases such as dioxins when they burn, which poses a risk to personnel and to sensitive electronic equipment in an enclosed equipment room.

Halogen-free standard  IEC 61249-2-21

Limit

Bromine (Br)

Not more than 900 ppm

Chlorine (Cl)

Not more than 900 ppm

Bromine and chlorine combined

Not more than 1,500 ppm

UL94 flame ratings run from HB, the lowest, through V2 and V1 to V0, the highest. A lower number means a stricter self-extinguishing requirement, so V0 is the top rating. KSS marks these ratings with a graphic system in its factory catalog, which makes selection by application straightforward. MHF-4040 is a practical example: it carries both the halogen-free environmental mark and the 94V-0 flame rating, and is rated to 100 degrees Celsius.

Positioning: the cable management layer, specified against leading international cabinet and cable brands

Apart from the cabinets and the main fiber system, cable management consumables such as cable ties, wiring ducts, mounting bases and cable protection are items every equipment room must purchase repeatedly over the long term. Built on its halogen-free and flame-retardant material platform, KSS offers a second-source supply option specified against leading international brands that can be integrated alongside existing cabinet and cable systems.
